I had been immunized against the bug and this is received through all the amazing lessons life hands you on a platter.  I had a boyfriend when it was a taboo to have one. I was 17. Our first meeting was as ordinary as it gets. I went on a stroll which was not uncommon those days on our estate, and there came this young man driving his father’s car. He stopped, chatted with me for a while and I wonder what he said that made me get into his car and have him drop me off. He called the intercom and we talked again but he knew the times to call when mum would not do the picking. Little did I know that the day he picked me up was the day I would begin the journey. We spent our spare moments together, talking, walking and when we walked the streets, word travelled swiftly to our parents. On my arrival home, a cane was the welcome party. We always paid dearly for those nights because our parents wanted us to be straight kids, but we didn’t mind.

This did not deter me nor stop my stubborn heart from wanting to be with him. I had a friend who listened to my fears and laughed at my tales of the experiences school had brought with it, alongside the education I so craved. I remember when he played the guitar and sang Chris de burgh’s “Lady in Red”. It was so beautiful; the funny thing is that I was not wearing red when he sang, but in that moment red was just a state of mind. I was fragile and he was so caring, attentive to my every need. We would meet up at 7.30pm under the stairs and talk till it was almost 10pm. Then he would tell me it was time to go. I would sulk, make faces till I cried and he would be forced to stay at least a second more. Well that was until mum called out my name and I would run inside, pretending the trash was my mission. He would run back home and sometimes, the doors would be locked and he would have to call for someone to open the door. He was the best friend I’d never had.

After dad’s passing, I craved the father-daughter relationship so much that I looked at him in that light. I had found my first true love. He took me on many firsts; squash, scrabble games, drives, music. And the day that Tunisia and Nigeria played a match at the stadium in Surulere, he asked me out on a date. It was our first official date (who takes a girl out to a football match on a first date?) We went out to watch the Eagles play and I was blown away. We won the match and he had won my heart. Our friends marveled at the way our love grew and we became the bad examples of what not to be. When we walked, mothers would point at us and say “that’s what you should never be” hahahaha… We were good friends, and much more. I had only learnt to cook at 15 and dad passed before I succeeded in making Egusi soup edible. My best friend was a willing guinea pig, tasting any and every meal I cooked. Watching him enjoy my cooking was therapeutic, considering the effort it took dad to eat the morsels of pounded yam and my rather shoddy Egusi soup.

I began to hope that one day I would bear his kids. At 17 though, kids and their thoughts! The semester had resumed and we both went back to our different schools, no emails, no cell phones, no blackberries or WhatsApp. The post office was rather cumbersome. All we had were our hearts and our thoughts. It turns out that was all the connection we needed. When the holidays came around I looked forward to seeing him, and then he told me he was leaving the country. My heart broke and tears poured freely down my face, I begged him to stay but he told me he had to go. I accepted this with a heavy heart and hoped that one day I would find a friend like him. When we got to the airport, I bade him farewell, he turned and said “I will come back, Nse”. I cried my heart out and went back to school the next day. I had lost the only friend who never judged me, who sang to me, and told me I was beautiful.

The years went by and one day I ran into his mum and got his number off her. We started talking again but I decided to let him go. I dated other men, became a woman and swore never to marry. I knew it wasn’t meant for me because after what I saw my parents have, mine had to be just like theirs or better!

I had finally become a woman, set in her ways but something was missing. So again I set out to look for him. I searched every social network to no avail and one day I used a search engine and there he was staring back at me. I sent him an email and he responded. We were ecstatic. At least I was, I had found the only man who knew the right things to say to make me happy. Then he proposed. I was over the moon. I accepted and told mum. My family was happy because they knew our history and just when I was getting ready to be Mrs……. He broke it off! I cried again, third time is a charm yea? He wasn’t supposed to make my mascara run he was meant to smear my lipstick!

I had been heartbroken yet again but this time it was done by him not a circumstance. I hated him, I loathed him and I rued the day I first set my eyes on him! He had changed me and now no man meant anything to me. I just dated and if it was inconvenient, I walked away. My famous quote “I was not born to be married” raised dust in some quarters, but no one cared to know why! Why get married to someone who would cheat on you or better still whom I would cheat on? Why get married to someone who would make me a shadow of myself or perhaps, have me give up my career for him? Yes, again I say, I was not born to be married. I got an email from him after so many years and I hated his guts. I alternated between ignoring him and giving frosty replies. He had my sister play mediator and that earned him a fairly warm reply. Well at least he was honest to walk away when he did rather than walk all over me in the marriage.

As the days went by, we spoke about so many things, emotions got in the way and he blurted it “I would love to spend the rest of my life with my sweetheart” and I asked him “have you told her?”. He said he had been trying but she seemed distant (abi you for no pretend say you no sabi say na you) oh well. I wanted him to say the words. And he did! “Will you marry me?” My heart skipped a beat and I said “listen yeah, you just have to give me some time to think this through” I knew my answer would be yes, but how was I to tell him I never got over him? Would I be perceived as weak, needy or just a desperate woman? It had taken us two decades to get to this point and what a road we had come. This is my heart, my happiness my true love had come back to me. Who cares what anyone thinks!

… So I got on the phone, called my friend and asked her to send him a card, flowers and a bottle of wine with my reply… “Yes I will marry you, my one true Love” Well I think that’s what I sent, but to be honest I was quite giddy. The long and short of it is that I said yes and my life has never been the same!

IT MAY TAKE A WHILE

It's funny how a song, a taste, a scent, or something as simple as a change in weather can trigger a memory. Certain times of year make me think about when I was homeless. Especially the winter. I started thinking about this one lady in particular who helped me out during that time. She was a good soul who saw me in need and gave me money and food. She didn't have much but what she had she shared out of the kindness of her heart. I told her that when I got successful I would pay her back. She smiled and said, "You don't have to pay me anything. I just felt led to help you."

I couldn't stop thinking about her the other day so I did some research and found her. Imagine her shock when I called her. She didn't even think that I remembered her. It's funny how something that was a small gesture to her was a huge blessing to me. As we went on talking, she reluctantly told me that she had just lost her job and was facing foreclosure. Of course, I did some things to help her out.

Why am I telling you this? I'm glad you asked. She gave to me out of the kindness of her heart. She gave to me from a pure place and expected nothing in return. The thing that brought tears to my eyes and blessed me so about this situation was this: this woman planted a seed in my life almost twenty years ago. But what she didn't know at the time was that the seed she planted would one day come back and bless her life just when she needed it most.

So what am I saying? I'm saying that if you are a giver of whatever you have... time, money, love, help, whatever it is... if you plant it in pureness it has got to come back to you. It may take a while but you will reap a harvest from that seed. Don't be weary in well-doing. It will come back to you. I know sometimes it may seem that all the good you do goes unnoticed by people, but if they don't notice, it doesn't matter. If they don't acknowledge your kindness, it does not matter. You know why? Because I promise you God sees it all and He is the only one that matters. And He is bound by His word, and that word says you will reap what you sow. So sow on, sow good seeds. They will grow and come back to you when you least expect it.

Nigeria - Lagos: Man Bites Another's Penis During A Scuffle Over Alleged Suspicion Of Sleeping With His Wife!

It is common to hear that a woman has bitten a man’s penis because of infidelity, but the reverse is the case regarding what has just happened at Ilupeju in Lagos, southwest Nigeria.

A 52-year old man, Abayomi Mayuku allegedly bit another man’s penis during a fight over alleged suspicion of sleeping with his wife.

Mayuku reportedly went to Olusesan Robinson’s house at 255, Railway Line, Ilupeju and inflicted injury on his penis with human bite.

This happened at about 8.00pm after the match between Nigeria and Ivory Coast in the ongoing Nations Cup in South Africa.

According to an eye witness, Mayuku left his home and came to Robinson’s house and alleged that he was told Robinson was dating his wife and warned him to desist from that.

Robinson, whose wife is heavily pregnant, denied and tried to explain to him that he was married and responsible man.

This angered Mayuku who immediately engaged Robinson in a scuffle. During the fight, he grabbed Robinson’s penis and bit it and as well as his neck.

Robinson suffered injuries and he is being treated in a hospital .

When P.M.NEWS visited Robinson’s house, his landlord confirmed the incident and explained that he heard the commotion but he didn’t come out because he was not feeling fine on that day.

The matter was reported at Olosan Police Station in Mushin and Mayuku was arrested and charged to court.

He is now facing a one count charge of assault, occasioning harm.

He pleaded not guilty and the presiding Magistrate, Mrs. F.O. Abegunde granted him bail in the sum of N250, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

He was, however, remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri pending when he will perfect his bail.

The matter was adjourned till 27 Febuary, 2013.

Okada Rider Michael Oshinbanjo, Arrested And Charged For Raping 20 Year Old Woman.

A commercial motorcycle operator has been arrested by the police and charged to Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court for allegedly raping a female passanger at Igando area Lagos State, southwest Nigeria.

The motorcycle operator, also known as Okada rider, Michael Oshinbanjo, was charged with rape of a 20-year old woman who rode on his motorcycle to a pharmaceutical store in the area.

P.M.NEWS learnt that Oshinbanjo allegedly lured the victim, who used to patronise him, to his house at 26, Atoke Olusanya Street, Igando New Town, Lagos.

She alleged that on their way to her destination, the Okada rider veered off to his house and lured her into his room.

She said she did not suspect foul play until she entered his room where he quickly locked the door and started beating her.

According to the victim, when she shouted and attempted to escape, the Okada rider over powered her, threw her on his bed and tied her hands and mouth before tearing her underpants and raping her.

P.M.NEWS learnt that the victim was later rushed to a hospital where she is being treated.

The matter was reported to the police at Igando division and he was arrested and arraigned in court.

The prosecutor, ASP Nicholas Atumonye, objected to his bail on the ground that if he was granted bail, it would send a wrong signal to the society because of the gravity of the offence.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs M. B. Folami, denied him bail and ordered that he should be remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri Prisons.

She adjourned the matter till 13 March 2013. On his way to prison, Oshibanjo told our reporter that ‘it was devil that pushed him to rape her.’

He confirmed that the victim was his customer and said he had pleaded with her and her parents to settle the matter out of court.

Papua New Guinea: Scaredy Cat Useless Police Watch Drunk And Doped-Up Men Strip Naked And Burn Alive A 20 Year Old Mother Of 2 After Accusing Her Of Witchcraft

Accused of sorcery, a 20-year-old mother of two was burnt alive by a group of allegedly drunk and doped-up men while hundreds of people, including schoolchildren, idly watched and took photos on mobile phones. Police were too scared to intervene.

Kepari Leniata was murdered in Mount Hagen, in the Western Highlands province of Papua New Guinea.

Relatives of a six-year-old boy who died in Mount Hagen General Hospital on Tuesday claimed his death was inflicted by sorcery. They interrogated three women, one of whom was Leniata, native to Enga province.

The attackers forced Leniata to admit her guilt by torturing her with a red-hot iron rod, local newspaper Post Courier reported.

Once they got the ‘confession’ needed, they stripped her naked, bound her hands and feet, doused her with gasoline and set fire to her on a pile of rubbish and old tires.

Hundreds of onlookers, including schoolchildren, watched the torture and brutal murder, taking photos of the woman being consumed alive by the fire, with none of them coming to the defense of the victim.

Several police officers who happened to be near the scene refrained from stopping the auto-da-fe merely because they were ‘outnumbered’ by the executioners.

Once medics and police dared to show up at the scene of the lynching, they couldn’t do anything to save Kepari Leniata’s life.

Kaiglo Ambane, police commander superintendent of the Western Highlands province, condemned the crime and promised to investigate it as murder and bring the culprits to justice.

Local authorities acknowledge that burning women for witchcraft is not an uncommon crime in PNG, but it usually doesn’t take place in broad daylight.

“It's an ongoing problem and has been in the spotlight for some time now,” PNG police spokesman Dominic Kakas told Australian Associated Press.

People in rural areas of Papua New Guinea strongly believe in white and black magic.

The spokesman said that witch-hunting is “part of PNG culture” for which people die because courts prefer not to rule in sorcery claims, despite a sorcery act adopted in the country in 1975.

Rashida Manjoo, the UN's special rapporteur on violence against women, reported last year that ‘culture sensitive’ extreme violence is only a smokescreen to raid women’s property, using misfortune or death as a pretext.

"I was informed that sorcery-related violence is commonly perpetrated by young men or boys who act under orders for other members in the community," Manjoo told the BBC in March 2012.

"They commonly do so under the influence of drugs or alcohol, which is provided by such persons,” he said.

Manjoo maintained that about two-thirds of females in relationships in PNG are familiar with domestic violence, The Australian newspaper reported.

Mexico: Tiger Mauls Its American Trainer To Death As Horrified Spectators Watch Helplessly. (See Video - Viewer Discretion Is Advised Please)

A footage was posted on YouTube on how a tiger killed its trainer, American Alexander Crispin, 35, during a circus performance in northern Mexico.

The trainer, American Alexander Crispin was performing in the ring with two tigers during a show for Circo Suarez in Sonora State. As he circles the animals, one of them suddenly lunges towards him and pulls him to the ground.

The video shows the tiger as it pounces on the trainer inflicting fatal wounds with its claws and jaws while horrified spectators watched helplessly. According to the Mexican news agency Notimex, Crispin suffered neck injuries from bites and scratches.

He was taken by ambulance to the Red Cross hospital Huatabampo, Sonora where he died while receiving medical care, as a result of hypovolemic shock.

Nigeria - Lagos: Bricklayer Raped His 14 Year Old Daughter Twice A Week And Beat Her Up Mercilessly Whenever She Tried To Refuse. *sigh + smh*

A 39-year old bricklayer has been arrested at Ajah area of Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria for allegedly raping his 14-year old daughter several times.

The suspect, Olanrewaju Wasiu, who lives at Awoyaya in Ajah was arrested by officials of the Office of Youth and

Social Development, an arm of the Lagos State Ministry of Youth, Sports and Social Development.

The suspect was brought to the taskforce office by the officials of the state government to be kept in their custody and arraigned in court later Wednesday.

P.M.NEWS gathered that the suspect allegedly raped his 14-year old daughter (name withheld) twice a week and threatened to kill her if she confided in anyone about the illicit sexual act.

The girl was said to have confessed to the taskforce officials that her father had sex with her twice a week.

She further alleged that her father beat her mercilessly any time she refused to have sex with him.

P.M.NEWS learnt that the girl disclosed the illicit act to her school authorities, when they summoned her to the office to enquire about her plight when a teacher saw her crying in the school.

She confided in them that her father had been sleeping with her as well as maltreating her.

The school authorities reported the case to the state government, which led to Wasiu’s arrest, while the little girl remains in government’s custody.

When contacted, Taskforce chairman, Bayo Sulaiman, confirmed the incident and disclosed that Wasiu would be charged to court on Wednesday.

Speaking with P.M.NEWS, Wasiu admitted that he raped his daughter but only did it on two occasions.

According to him, “I did not know what came over me. It is not my fault. I don’t know how it happened. It is the devil’s work. I only slept with her twice and twice weekly.”

He alleged that his daughter tempted him by always sitting on his lap and demanding for fun with him, which was why he carried out the act.

“I beat her because she stole my money. They should forgive me,” he said, adding that he had the girl through illicit relationship and that he never married her mother.

Nigeria: Rapists To Face Life Imprisonment Under New Law - Hon. Beni Lar Reveals In An Interview With NAN In Abuja

Chairman, House Committee on Human Rights, Hon. Beni Lar, said on Wednesday, that rapists would face life imprisonment once the current Violence Against Persons Bill becomes law.

Lar, who made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in Abuja, said the National Assembly had decided to expedite action on the passage of the bill, considering the increasing prevalence of rape in the country.

She pointed out that the bill would not only protect rape victims but equally provide protection for victims of violence including physical, sexual, psychological, domestic, harmful traditional practices and discrimination.

She said: "My only concern is that in our laws today, the punishment for rape is very light and that is why you find people committing rape against children. It's unfortunate.

"It is because of issues like this that it has come to the attention of the National Assembly that we have the Violence Against Persons Bill.

"It is a bill that seeks to eliminate violence in private and public life, to prohibit all forms of violence including physical, sexual, psychological, domestic, harmful traditional practices, discrimination against persons and provide maximum protection and effective remedies for victims and punishment for offenders.

"Part one of this bill, which has passed second reading in the House, defines a rapist as one who intentionally violates another person and the conviction for this offence is life imprisonment.

"The National Assembly is seeking to stiffen punishment for rape because the punishment has been so light. People feel they can do it easily and get away with it but once this bill is passed you would think twice before committing rape because they can go to jail for life."

Law won't exempt couples caught in act of rapeThe chairman stressed that the law would not exempt couples caught in the act of rape, adding that women deserve their respect and right to life.

She called on friends and relatives of victims of domestic violence as well as victims themselves to break the culture of silence by reporting rape cases.

She said the law could only take full course when cases of rape were reported to law enforcement agencies, particularly the Police.

Lar urged people to desist from the stigmatisation of victims, adding that stigmatisation is largely responsible for the culture of silence.

She also said that people always take advantage of the culture of silence to rape those related to them, adding: "It would no longer be business as usual with the passage of the law.

"Why we have an increase in this violence is because we have a culture of silence. Most of the people that commit acts of violence against women are people that are known to women.

"For instance, domestic violence, it is either your spouse, or in cases of rape, especially the rape of infants, it's mainly people around them, their guardians, their wards, so-called family friends and people who are known to them.

"All of these contribute to increase in cases of violence but I'm happy that now women are beginning to speak out.

On soldiers who raped 4 women
"For instance, the recent case that happened in Abuja where unidentified soldiers raped about four different women, one of them being a married woman for no reason at all.

"First of all those soldiers were not even mandated to pick up so-called prostitutes. That was not within their mandate. They were posted on a different assignment somewhere and they decided to be mischievous and of course their target was women.

"I am very happy that they did not get away with it. Right now they are facing trial in a court of law. "They've been dismissed from the army because they went beyond their duty and if they are found to be guilty by the court, of course they would face the punishment."

CBS networks doesn't wanna see a SINGLE celebrity butt crack at the Grammys on this Sunday ... and no boobs or genitals either ... this according to a warning the Television house fired off to all "talent" appearing on the show.

The email -- which surfaced online -- was sent by CBS Standards and Practices to people connected to the celebrities expected to appear on camera during the broadcast (be it the show or on the red carpet)... and the network makes it clear, it's not taking any chances with the FCC this year.

"Please be sure that buttocks and female breasts are adequately covered," the letter reads.

"Thong type costumes are problematic. Please avoid exposing bare flesh under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack."

It goes on ... "Bare sides or under curvature of the breasts is also problematic. Please avoid sheer see-through clothing that could possibly expose female breast nipples."

"Please be sure the genital region is adequately covered so that there is no visible 'puffy' bare skin exposure. Please avoid commercial identification of actual brand name products on T-shirts."

"Foreign language on wardrobe will need to be cleared. OBSCENITY OR PARTIALLY SEEN OBSCENITY ON WARDROBE IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR BROADCAST. This as well, pertains to audience members that appear on camera."

But the most shocking part of the letter, CBS does not want talent to wear a lapel pin or any other accessory which contains the name of an organized cause "visibly spelled out."

So, a star can wear a pink ribbon ... as long as it doesn't say "The American Breast Cancer Foundation."

Don't let the K's fool you. Kylie and Kendall Jenner, half-sisters of famous Kardashian trio Kim, Khloe and Kourtney, may share a bloodline via mom Kris Jenner, but the duo are proud of their own unique moniker, they explain in the March issue of Glamour magazine.

"We're full-throttle Jenners!" Kendall, 17, told the publication. "We don't have any desire to be Kardashians."

Sister Kylie, 15, agreed: "All that matters is that we're a family."

In fact, the pair revealed, their older sisters are always on-hand to dispense advice, though each of them are helpful in different ways.

"If we're fighting, we call Khloe. She's our peacemaker," Kendall shared. "Kourtney keeps us down-to-earth." And Kim, whose baby-to-be with boyfriend Kanye West will soon join adorable cousins Mason, 2, and Penelope, 7 months, in the "next generation"?

"Kim teaches us how to deal with the spotlight," Kylie added. Even the men in the bustling household -- their brother Rob, 25, and sisters' respective boyfriends and husbands -- have an opinion when it comes to how Kendall and Kylie are growing up.

"Rob checks on me at least three times a day, and Lamar [Odom] wants to meet any guy we're talking to," Kylie said of Khloe's husband. "Just yesterday Scott [Disick] was going over the kind of guy I should date."

Chinese Student Cheats Death After Being Hit By An Express Train Travelling At 90mph While Posing For 'Artistic' Pictures Beside Railway Tracks!

This is the dramatic moment a Chinese student cheated death after being hit by an express train travelling at 90mph while posing for “artistic” pictures beside the railway tracks.

Xiao Li, 20, had asked friend Xiao Qing to take some dramatic shots of her with hair flying back as the train raced past her in Shaodong, Hunan province, southern China. But as the Li attempted to strike a suitable pose she stumbled on the stony track bed straight into the path of the train and was sent flying as it clipped her on the left shoulder.

Fearing the worst the driver immediately slammed on the brakes but incredibly Li escaped with nothing more than a bruised shoulder. She said: “I felt this sudden bump and I was flying sideways. The train stopped and the driver thought he must have killed me. I didn’t realise I was so close. My shoulder was badly bruised but I’m lucky to be alive. Maybe next time we’ll do some pictures indoors,” she added.

A police spokesman said: “It’s strictly illegal to interfere with the railway lines but she seems to have punished herself quite a bit already.”
