Man Dies After Falling Down Elevator Shaft In Manhattan Office Building

A man died after falling to the bottom of an elevator shaft on Park Avenue South near E. 25th St.

A man was killed when he tumbled down an elevator shaft in a Manhattan office building Wednesday, officials said.
The victim — believed to be the super of the 12-story structure on Park Avenue South near E. 25th St. — died at about 12:30 p.m.

It was not immediately clear how the man fell down the shaft or what floor he fell from, but police sources believe the man's death was accidental.
Officials were withholding his name pending notification of relatives.

The man was believed to be the super of the building, but it is not known how far he might have fallen in the 12-story building.

A second unidentified man was rushed from the building to Bellevue Hospital with trauma, but authorities offered no details of his condition or how he was hurt.
The city's Department of Buildings website said the elevator shaft in the 99-year-old building was "open" and "unguarded" causing a dangerous condition.
The agency was investigating the accident Wednesday afternoon, a spokesman said.
