At 25, “The Youngest DJ in the Midwest” is recognized as much from DJ booths in St. Louis clubs and around the world as well as Bet's Rap City, MTV, TRL, ShowTime at The Apollo and more. DJ Tab is a music lover who can work any crowd. “It's all about crowd control,” he says. “If I want the people to dance, I play a dancing song. If I want the crowd to fight, I play a Lil Jon song.” Whether he's spinning hip hop or techno, “I can do it all,” he says with a laugh.
Tab's done it all in more than 15 mixtapes including the Grind-Up Radio series and Real Mix tape and now “I worked hard on those mix tapes and music!” he proclaims. But hard work has always been Tab‟s main focus.
“I used to draw a turntable on my mom's hardwood floor with headphones on and act like I was scratching.” His mother and late stepfather bought him real turntables, and the determined Tab taught himself how to scratch. “I used to wake up in the morning, practice before I would go to school, go home, finish my homework, and practice my turntables.”
Tab made his name early on DJing at school dances and skating rinks, but his break came in 2004 when a childhood friend, J-Kwon, brought Tab onto his team. When Tab first saw himself in the video for “Tipsy,” then the #1 song in the country, while at a friend's house, he knew he was going to make it. “Yeah, I've been DJing ever since after that.”
Weeks after the “Tipsy" video, Tab dropped the hip hop compilation mix tape, Turntables Always Burning, featuring music from Pitbull and Akon. He is now working on more mixtapes, including the all south Exclusive Radio Mixtape, Confessions, an R&B mix featuring new music from Michael Jackson and Usher.” Tab will be doing a lot of producing in 2013 and plans to get his production company up and going by the end of this year.
Tab plans to start his own label very soon. Tab is touring on his own across the world djing in places such as London, New Zealand, Chicago and anywhere Tab gets booked for a show. He is enrolled at ITT-Technical College finishing up his bachelors in criminal justice, and with his non-profit organization in the making, DJ Tab Towards Teenagers, which will focus on teenagers between the ages of 13-19 on getting their GED and help them find jobs.
Tab has worked with many different major record labels such as SoSo Def, Universal Music Group and Interscope Records. Tab has worked with many artists such as Penelope Jones, Jibbs, Chris Brown, Bow Wow, DJ Drama, DJ Khaled and many more. Having so much and being so young, Tab has faced a lot of criticism, but he doesn't have a problem getting past it. “The haters make me want to keep pushing harder and become an even better DJ like DJ Tiesto and David Guetta.”
Tab has also linked up with Coca-Cola to market and promote DJ Tab's new and improved energy drink, “Tab Energy” which will be in stores soon. DJ Tab has also released his new clothing line entitled Geek‟d Up which targets today‟s skateboarders and the people who have a high sense of fashion and love to set there own trends. You can locate the clothing line by logging ontowww.geekdupclothing.com
Tab knows he's on the path to success, and he‟s taking his time down that path while making big moves. “Don't ever try to rush anything because you're going to mess up,” he says. He has too many fans to please to stand in his own way. Now at the end 2012 and 2013 year just beginning, Tab has gained his own endorsements from companies such as McDonald's, Imo's Pizza, and even Saint Louis based shoe company Greedy Genius where Tab will be releasing his own tennis shoes this fall. Tab is also the founder of hip hop street icon Yo Gotti, CMG DJz. DJ Tab currently has two hot singles buzzing across the world entitled “We Don't Luv'em” featuring Stuey Rock, Saint Orleans and Juney Boomdata and the second single entitled “luv Wit 2 featuring Jordan” these two singles are also available on all mp3 websites such as iTunes and Amazon.
“I have a lot of faith,” Tab says. “I never say I can't". At just 25, the only thing The Youngest DJ in the Midwest can’t do is stop. There's a lot of hard work to be done.
