Residents of a serene estate in the Garki District of Abuja woke up on Tuesday to witness the gory sight of a female senior staff of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), whose lifeless body was found in a deep freezer inside her residence.
The deceased, a mother of three simply identified as Mrs. Abdullahi, is suspected to have been strangled to death by her driver in connivance with a young man whose identity had not been ascertained as at press time.
Daily Sun learnt that the woman, an indigene of Auchi in Etsako Local Government Area of Edo State, was last seen in the evening of Friday when she was believed to have been killed, while arranging household properties in her new abode where she had planned to fully relocate after the Sallah festivities. Her former residence was at the Citec Estate in the Jabi area of Abuja.
Informed sources further hinted that after perpetrating the evil act, her assailants drove out with Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) to her old residence at Citec Estate, where they allegedly ransacked all the rooms and made away with cash as well as other valuable items, including another SUV said to have been parked in the premises.
Ironically, her driver who is suspected to have masterminded the gory act was reportedly employed by the deceased barely two weeks ago.
A middle-aged woman who claimed to be a relation of the deceased but pleaded anonymity, told Daily Sun that her driver and his partner in crime were said to have driven the two vehicles back to her new apartment in Garki, where sources said they might have taken some bottles of beer in her sitting room, before eventually zooming off to an unknown destination.
Curiously, while the gory drama lasted, a private security guard (Maiguard) at the residence of the deceased reportedly claimed not to be aware or suspicious of the developments. He has, however, been picked up by homicide detectives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command.
“The security guard said since the assailants were working for the woman, he did not suspect anything when they moved out and came back with two vehicles. I don’t know whether they told him that madam was travelling when they eventually left the house because the woman was to travel to Lokoja to join her husband who resides there. But when her phones were not going till the next day, we started calling Kaduna and Lokoja to find out if they saw her there. Thereafter, people went to her new residence, but were told by the maiguard that she had travelled.
So, we became afraid and formed a search party to go along the Lokoja Abuja road since we heard that there was an accident. We thought she had been involved in an accident and they started searching everywhere including the mortuaries, but to no avail. It was after all that effort, that they went to her house yesterday and opened the door, only to discover her caked body inside a newly bought deep freezer which she had not even used. And because her size was more than the fridge, they had to force her inside”, a source told Daily Sun.
FCT Police Commissioner, Micheal Zuokumor, who confirmed the incident said investigations are in progress, and gave assurance that the perpetrators of the act would soon be fished out.
