SADE ADU, FOR BILLBOARD MAGAZINE ISSUE "AUGUST 2011"
Now that Sade Adu has finally wrapped up her 1st North American tour in 10 years, she has made the cover of Billboard magazine’s next issue. From June 16 through August 14, the 52 year-old Nigerian-British singer sold out 16 dates and grossed over $31 million in revenue during her 36-date US tour run. When asked how she prepared for her return to performing live shows, Adu admitted that she didn’t do much preparing:
On how she prepared for her first tour in 10 years:
I do the opposite and pretend it's not going to happen, immersing myself in the details of production as a way of distracting myself from reality. When the time comes, I don't test the waters I just jump straight in.
On the type of experience she wanted to bring to her fans:
We wanted the show to be spectacular, transporting the audience on a surprising, emotional adventure at the polar extremes of dynamics. So for one moment they believe they are in a huge
stadium and the next an intimate club where each note hangs in the air. [Source]
