As a consistent agitator of the establishment, the last place you'd expect Kanye West to have an affinity with is a building which still stands as the most ostentatious symbol of pre-revolutionary France.
But is seems that the author of the brave and questioning Black Slaves is prepared to overlook a history of shocking inequality to use France's Palace of Versailles as his wedding venue.
The 36-year-old and his fiancee Kim Kardashian, 33, have set their sights on the epic building according to Us Weekly, and apparently they're 'not working with a budget.'
The new aristocracy? Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are said to be eyeing up the Palace of Versailles as a wedding venue and are 'not working with a budget'
This is fitting, as the Palace of Versailles was not built with a budget despite the fact that ordinary French men, women and children were starving at the time... and we all know how that ended up.
The sprawling estate, that was erected in a rural location but now forms part of a wealthy suburb of Paris, was famously the home of Louis XVI and his wife Marie Antoinette.
The latter is of course famous for suggesting 'let them eat cake' when she was told her subjects were dying of hunger because they had no bread.
It would be churlish to imagine something as idiotic coming from Queen Kim's mouth though her grip on reality is quite probably just as tenuous.
Go big, or go home: The sheer scale of the palace, which is now a museum, suits Kanye's theatrical sense of occasion
Subtle elegance: The palace is stunningly opulent, but it's still a stark reminder of an unequal age
Parisian chic: Kanye is a big fan of Paris, as we all know, but he's not a fan of the establishment so this is an incongruous choice in many ways
Some historians dispute the quotation, however, and claim that Marie was an altruistic monarch given to acts of charity so perhaps Kim - who was recently slammed for auctioning off her clothes for the Philippines but only donating 10% of the profits - will see herself in the maligned figurehead.
She'll no doubt see herself in the kind of opulent, unnecessarily expensive gowns that the queen was given to wearing (still while France was starving, are we seeing any parallels here?)
Ever the conundrum, Kanye is perhaps prepared to leave his radical ideas at the ornate door so the pair can enjoy the unparalleled opulence of the venue on their big day.
Gallery of Mirrors: This venue has the makings of some fantastic photo settings
Heaven on earth: The palace is surrounded by a beautiful lake
Room of War: The couple won't even want to get into the history of this room, but it does look a bit like Kris Jenner's lounge
'Kanye has never been married and wants a big [wedding],' a source told US.
And of course, the inventive showman could always subvert the place's history with a natty theme like having a guillotine slice the cake or by asking Kim's bridesmaids to wear the red, white and blue of the French flag - still the revolutionary colours.
We do know that West likes to go big after his October 21st proposal to Kim - her 33rd birthday no less - at San Francisco's AT&T Park.
He hired a 50 piece orchestra and lit up the scoreboard with the words PLEEEASE MARRY MEEEE!!!'
