The Ghanaian President, Dr. John Dramani Mahama has described Akwa Ibom Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio as a good example of leadership in Africa. Dr. Mahama, who accompanied by Ghanaian Ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador Baba Kamara and Information Minister, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, among others, stated this Sunday when he paid the Governor a courtesy visit at Governor’s Office, Uyo during his one-day official visit to the state, saying ”It takes leadership to bring about transformation”.
President Dramani remarked “Governor Akpabio is not a visitor to Ghana. When he recently paid a courtesy visit to me, he presented a book entitled ‘Uncommon Transformation’. Today, my visit to the state and what I have seen on ground through the numerous infrastructure indicate a testimony of what true leadership can do to transform the lives of the people in Africa. I am impressed by what I have seen today in the state.
Dr. John Dramani Mahama
"Africa is changing and is transforming. We are experiencing positive Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth compared to the 1980s when the economies were contracting- growing negatively. Africa needs a new leadership to grow into development. You can have growth without transformation. It takes leadership to bring about development. Akwa Ibom is a good example of good leadership", Governor Mahama also noted.

He further applauded the Governor “for the wonderful work he has done to this part of the nation and the Akwa Ibom Government, for the job in transforming the state, encouraging them to do more”.
The Governor thanked him for visiting Akwa Ibom after landing at Abuja Federal Capital Territory (FCT), remarking that this was a good way of deepening the relationship between both countries, adding "We are brothers. Akwa Ibom people are praying for you. And we hope Ghana will (as it is already changing) because you represent that hope".
He particularly lauded the Ghanaian Information and Communication Technology (ICT) revolution, saying that his government is negotiating with a Ghanaian ICT expert to replicate same in Akwa Ibom State for the teeming youths.
Akpabio who recalled that Ghana and Nigeria have long history of relationship enjoined Akwa Ibom businessmen to partner Ghanaian business experts, noting "Let’s integrate the economy of both countries for growth”.
He congratulated Dr. Mahama on his recent election and subsequent swearing in as Ghanaian President, describing him as a man of humble disposition and simplicity, qualities that endeared him to the Ghanaian electorate.
