The 'BLACK NOVEMBER - Struggle for the Niger Delta' film project is looking to achieve what Greats like Ken Saro Wiwa died fighting for, what MEND battled tirelessly against, what Ankio Briggs(AND THE LIST GOES ON) always stood up for, being- western exploitation of our oil resources and leaving our oil rich Niger Delta in the worst environmental condition for the last 50 years, one of the world's best examples of the phrase "RESOURCE CURSE".....
As you know there's hardly any more powerful medium of sensitization than story telling/film. The general idea is to increase world pressure on the oil industry stake holders to clean up the oil spills in the Niger Delta and compensate the people for years of living in abject poverty and squalor.
Just a very brief insight to the subject - The Exxon Valdez oil spill is arguably the biggest recorded oil spill in the world, the BP-Golf of mexico oil spill was another major spill in recent times, that was addressed by the us government in a few months and BP was made to pay $20billion in compensation for the disaster.
Nigeria is the 5th largest supplier of oil to the United States of America, 50% of our oil goes to the US.
Statistics have shown that the size of the Exxon Valdez oil spill and 10 times the gulf of Mexico BP oil spill has been recorded every year in the Niger Delta for the past 50years and nothing has been done about it..
How can you join this movement? Tell a friend to tell a friend about BLACK NOVEMBER, use your most powerful sensitization tool, Facebook, to share the synopsis, trailer and every piece you find on BLACK NOVEMBER film until its release later in the year.
Already amazing reactions are coming from the US CONGRESS and citizenry after seeing the film at some of our recently held screenings, we need more pressure to make the reactions materialize into action which has of course been launched, we can make this happen.
BLOOD DIAMOND did a lot for the people of Sierra Leon, KONY 2012 got the American govt's. attention, let BLACK NOVEMBER be our own catalyst to turn our oil rich Niger delta around for the common good of Nigeria and the world at large, taking a cue from the development in other oil rich countries. Let our 'FACEBOOKING' & 'TWITTERING' count for something that affects us all. PLS START BY SHARING THIS PIECE.
"BLACK NOVEMBER" coming soon to theatres near you!
